Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons

Sweater and skirt, Autumn/Winter 1995, by Rei Kawakubo for Comme des Garçons Noir. Partially embroidered acrylic knit, nylon tulle. Photograph by Hiroshi Sugimoto.

- Ref book of Rei Kawakubo – talks about the invention of rayon criss-cross with elastic by Hiroshi Matsushita. They also formulated the bonded cotton rayon and polyurethane fabric (for Kawakubo’s asymmetric dresses of 1986)

Is there a parallel to architecture? Can this be related to the breaking away of symmetry in architecture? But, architecture did not break away from symmetry due to the invention of new materials.

(work in progress, to be updated shortly)
