The fashion school is the product of two research topics that have been the subject of our thesis. The first is our investigation into tesselated origami. We developed our research into an operable material system, applied to our architecture from the outside, a cloak for the building. The second topic is the theory of emergence, the application of which became two-fold. The aspect of emergence that relates to iteration, algorithms, feedback loops and emergent complexity became the basis for our definition of a design process that would, throughout the semester, generate our architecture. The other aspect of emergence of interest to us is that which relates to mathematical structure. This led us to hypothesize form generated by the interrelationship of parts, and to our understanding of the resultant manifold structure behind it.
