fashion designer

YEOHLEE TENG

what I’m most interested in her designs is her understanding of materiality in fabrics. Particularly in how she use the weight/gravity as a design element to animate the wearer and her continuous pursuit in pushing the extent of fabrics.

what does a fabric want? or better.. what else can this fabric do?

User + Garment relationship is engaged by the constant contact and the non-contact moment of the garment and the user (when it’s moving).

her methods includes ‘folding’ and ‘undulating’ surfaces as a way to impose a counteract force (from the material itself) to maintain its shape/to create a shape.her latest collection, Fall 2009, is her first experiment with ‘zero waste’- a manufacturing constrain impose to the designer.

application:
can architectural skin animate + engage the subject in the space enclosed by the skin? if so, how? what are the external/internal forces that will/should be include in the design parameter? gravity? wind? speed? strength?
